My Philosophy Statement
“Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself” John Dewey. It is significantly important to not only teach students the textbook content, but most significantly than teaching content is teaching children ways of how to learn the content and use it in different ways. I strongly believe that meaningful education shouldn’t be only inside the classroom, rather education should be present in students’ daily lives and in their interactions with others. I believe that there are inexhaustible purposes of education, but there are three purposes that are the most significant to me as an educator. First is to educate students well to be ready to compete in the global economy. Second is to educate students and teach them how to use what they learned in school in their lives. Third is to help students grow up to be more mature and moral.
I believe that students receive high quality education when being taught a lesson creatively. As an instructional tech, I will come up with different and creative instructional methods to reach all the different types of learners in the classroom. I believe that teachers need to use technology when explaining lessons to encourage students who learn better using technology and to make accommodations for the different learners in the classroom. I believe that teachers need to learn about their students’ interests as part of trying to provide high quality learning and connecting students’ interests to their education. I believe that good quality education happens when lessons are explained in different ways through activities to try to reach all the different learners in the classroom. Therefore, I strongly believe that the quality of education provided for students depends on the differentiation of learning methods.
As a teacher, I believe that assessment is part of providing a high-quality education. Assessing students’ performance help me as an instructional tech to know if the technology methods are helping to improve students’ performance or not. Another important aspect that I believe will help improve students’ performance is a good parent teacher communication. Parent-teacher communications are beneficial to both students and teachers to help increase students’ performance. In my prospective, students shouldn’t be thought subject content only, students should also be thought skills that would benefit them in their lives.
I believe that schools should be the place, where students learn about the problems that are in the community. Students should learn about the different prospective that people might hold regarding different problems. Furthermore, students should be taught at a young age the importance of defending and stand up for what they deeply believe in. It is very important for students to learn how to respect the different point of views that might oppose their own. I believe that community and world problems should be discussed with students in middle and high school.
As a future instructional tech, my proper role is comparable to that of students, which is teaching and learning from each other. role is to teach children not only the subjects, but also what is going on in the community. I believe that it is my responsibility as an educator to learn about students and their families to be able to provide them with meaningful learning experiences. Learning should be measured based on how much values students have gained from the lesson. I believe that learning can be measured in different ways; learning can be measured through tests, projects, and group work.
