Action plan:
This plan is for 8th grade language arts class, where students will be asked to read a novel (The Outsiders). The novel will be read and discussed in class, where students will either read the book at loud or get to Listen to an audio book version. After reading the Outsiders as a class, students will watch the movie. Students will be assigned to write a compare and contrast paper comparing the book to the movie. In this assignment students will compare characters, settings, and plot of bASSoth the book and the movie.
The three ideas that technology will be uASased to enhance learning are: first, to have students with reading and visual disabilities listen to the audiobook. Second, students with visual disabilities will be able to access a website called speechnotes.co. This website will help this group of students write their papers by using the text to speech feature. Third, students can record notes and class discussions in a written form, which can be uploaded to google drive, downloaded as a file, or word document. During the project students will be supported by getting constant help and feedback from the classroom teacher during class sessions.
1) There are two technologies that will be used in this plan which are an audiobook on YouTube and speechnotes.co. Students with reading disabilities or students who are visually impaired will benefit from listening to the audio book. Also, students who are visually impaired will be offered to use a speech to text website or app like speech notes to be able to write their papers.
2) Both technologies that will be used in this lesson will help to enhance the learning experience for students with disability and it will help increase their performance. Providing students who have a reading disability with an audio book will help them to overcome their challenges and enhance their performance. Also, students with visual disability who struggle to read, to take notes, and to write their papers will be trained to use a website called speech notes. This website will help students to write their papers and take notes by using the speech to text feature in this website. Using this website can enhance students’ performance.
3) The kind of support students would need to be successful is to train students with visual impairments to use the assistive technology (the speech notes website) before starting the lesson and constant teacher guidance and support inside the classroom.
4) The advantages of using both assistive technologies, the speech notes website and the audio book, provide students who struggles from reading and visual disabilities with some services that they can use to enhance their performance.
Assistive technologies:
a) The population of students I am planning for are 8th graders who have a reading or visual disability.
b) The specific learning disabilities I am trying to address are reading and visual disability.
c) The technologies I have selected to help students overcome their disabilities are first the audiobook, which will help both students with reading and visual disability by Listening to the book. Second, the website speechnotes.co will help students with visual disabilities to write their papers by using speech to text.
d) I picked these tools because these they are simple and affordable to students to use.
e) Some of the advantages that these tools have over other option are because they are affordable (free), and simple.
f) The criteria that I used to make my selection were simplicity and affordability.
g) The tools that I used are completely free.
h) I will assist students’ work and learning in the activities I have brainstormed is by offering extra time to help train students to use these assistive technologies before the lesson.
Instructions to use the assistive technologies:
1) The first technology is the audio book:
a) Go to safari and type YouTube.com in the address bar.
b) Click on the search engine of YouTube
c) Type “the outsiders audiobook”
d) Click on the first option

2) The second technology is speech notes:
a) Go to safari and type or use the voice command to search speechnotes.co, then click enter.
b) On the speechnotes.co there is a microphone on the right upper corner.
c) Click on the microphone and start speaking.
d) The speech will be transformed to written documents which can be set to be automatic saving.
e) The saved document can be uploaded to google drive, downloaded as a file, or word document.
Assessment:
Students will be evaluated on the quality of their paper and if they provided a critical compare and contrast between the book (The Outsiders) and the movie. Students will be evaluated based on the rubric below.
